Dogs and Weddings

If you have a dog the chances are you consider them part of the family, I know we do. So for many couples it makes perfect sense that they want to involve their fur babies in one of the most important days of their lives.

There are numerous ways you can incorporate your beloved four-legged friend into your wedding celebrations, but first you need to check if your church, venue and suppliers allow them and are happy to work with pets.

If they are then maybe they could accompany you, the flower girl, page boy or the ringbearer down the aisle, be in the getting ready wedding shoot (how cute are they going to look giving a prep talk to the groom or a good luck kiss to the bride) and of course they can be in the main wedding pictures too. Maybe it will be too much for them to be there all day, so you could ask the pet sitter to bring them along for an hour or two, if the venue is local. Potentially your pooch isn’t the kind that will wear a tutu or tux, so rather than cause them any stress, you could always twist some greenery or flowers around their lead so it looks cute but doesn’t bother them, or possibly add a bow tie or flower that coordinates with your colour scheme.

If the venue of your dreams doesn’t allow dogs, or your dog would find it all a bit overwhelming, or cause chaos (The Cheeky Hound probably fits in this category), then there are still lots of adorable and memorable ways they can have a special role.

You could use them as inspiration for your save the date or wedding invites, use photos of them as table numbers or place cards. What about creating a signature cocktail in their honour or adding a mini version of them as your cake topper? Another funny way to include them is, if you are having a photo booth, get a big blow up cardboard picture of them and add it to your photo booth props.

It goes without saying that your four-legged friend might not be a dog, it could be a cat or even a llama. Whatever the animal, please ensure that including your pet is right for them.
